One Man’s Dream Truck: El Centinela

Custom 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Build

Most builds start with our team. A direction, a vision, a set of decisions made in the shop by the people who know these trucks best. This one started with a conversation at Barrett Jackson.

The man who commissioned this build knew what he wanted. His vision played a key part in bringing this truck to life. That kind of involvement changes a build for the better. It adds a layer of personality that you can feel when you’re looking at the finished truck, even if you can’t quite put your finger on why. “El Centinela” is a 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer restored from the ground up, built with the customer’s vision in mind, and named by him when it was done.

Here’s how it came together.

THE BUILD – EXTERIOR

The colour was decided early, and was based off of a Porsche colour the customer had seen online. “Ceniza Blue Metallic” was the choice. From there everything else followed naturally. The colour feels right on this 1972 K5 Blazer body and it seems to subtly change in different light. The satin coated blacked out trim, grille, and bumpers add an element of “edge” to the overall look, and the smoothed and colour matched topper carries an uninterrupted visual flow all the way through the roofline. Black billet exterior door handles, auto-sensing JW Speaker LED headlamps, and a hidden rear reflector fuel door are details you might not notice on your first look. Once you do, however, you start realising how much thought went into every inch of this truck.

The underbody tells the same story. Fully Raptor-lined and colour-matched, every surface restored, every unused hole filled. We’ve always believed a full restoration should leave nothing untouched. The standard for what you can see doesn’t change for what you can’t.

El Centinela sits on 35″ BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain KM2 tires mounted to 18″ KMC wheels, and the stance alone communicates everything you need to know about this truck.

THE BUILD – INTERIOR

Inside, the cab was built around the customer. Custom seats and a custom dash pad, comfortable enough for a long drive and true enough to the original 1972 interior that you never forget what year you’re sitting in. Custom Iconic door panels and centre console give the cab a unified, classic look and feel. An Ididit tilt steering column, billet custom steering wheel, and Iconic Built-inspired digital gauges put everything right in front of the driver in a way that feels entirely natural and nostalgic. The custom roll cage adds protection and style without cluttering the interior, and the colour matched headliner adds to the unmatched fit and finish of an already immaculate interior.

Every modern convenience is built in too, but integrated naturally so that none of it feels out of place; it still feels classic. AMP Research PowerSteps that appear when a door opens and virtually disappear when it closes. A push-button tailgate. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Vintage Air A/C, digital climate control, power-operated windows via billet switches, automatic locks, and mirror-integrated LED turn indicators and more. We built in as many modern amenities as possible while preserving the classic look and feel. And sound? The bespoke audio system with amp, subwoofer, and custom sub box takes care of that. There’s nothing like a modern sound system in a reinvented classic. You have to hear it to understand.

EL CENTINELA

He named his truck “El Centinela” after a mountain in Baja California that has watched over the landscape for as long as anyone can remember. It’s a name that carries weight. Quiet strength, endurance, and presence without effort. Standing in front of the finished truck, it’s hard to imagine it being called anything else.

Every build that leaves our shop is something we’re proud of. This is no exception, made even more special because it was built for someone specific, shaped by his dreams, and finished to a standard that reflects both what he wanted and what our team is capable of delivering. The result speaks for itself.
